What Is Repco Beach Hop?

Repco Beach Hop is a beloved, annual five-day nostalgia festival based in Whangamatā on the Coromandel coast, with satellite events in towns like Waihi and Onemana. It celebrates the 1950s–60s: rock ’n’ roll bands, classic cars and hot rods, vintage fashion, pin-up culture, and a welcoming beach-town atmosphere. Thousands of visitors line the streets to see gleaming chrome and listen to live music while local businesses and community groups join the fun.

Public entry is free. Organisers encourage buying a programme or making a donation—any profit is given back to the local community. If you’re bringing a vehicle to show or enter parades and cruises, vehicle entries open 1 October 2025 for the 2026 event (see below for planning notes).

Where to Stay — Accommodation & Certified Campers

Book Early

Whangamatā fills quickly for Beach Hop—sometimes a year out. If places are full, look at Waihi, Onemana, Tairua, Pāuanui, or Hauraki Plains towns and plan for a scenic drive in.

Self-Contained Campers

Certified self-contained campers can use the designated parking at Whangamatā Area School during the event period (space, fees and rules may apply; check current guidance).

Practical Tips

  • Bring earplugs (music & engines can run late).
  • Carry sun protection, water and snacks for street days.

Visitor Tips

  • Pack smart: Sun hat, sunscreen, water bottle, comfy shoes, portable phone charger.
  • Photos: Ask before photographing people; step well clear of moving vehicles.
  • Kids: Agree a meeting point and time. Ear protection can help near loud engines.
  • Cash + Card: Food trucks and stalls may vary in payment options; signal can be patchy.
  • Transport: Park legally; consider walking/cycling from your stay to reduce congestion.

Safety & Respect

  • Obey marshals and temporary traffic controls.
  • Keep dogs leashed and away from food prep and moving vehicles.
  • Use bins or pack out rubbish—help keep Whangamatā beautiful.
  • Noise etiquette: rev limits and idling rules exist for a reason—enjoy the vibe, respect the town.

Support the Community

Beach Hop’s organisers donate any profit back to local groups. Buying a programme or making a donation helps fund facilities, services and future events. It’s an easy way to give back after a great weekend.
